For Lithium-ion conversion, Voltronix USA is developing a kit for 5,000$. You will save ~350 LBS. They are rated to 4,000 charging cycles VS ~600.

After a post conversion range test (@~10 mph), they've gone from 34 Miles (lead acid) to 58 miles (li-ion) :encouragement:

AGMs will work, but same Ah AGMs are bigger and may not fit. Also AGM batteries have a narrow temperature tolerance. I think they also provide less cycles.

The downside would be the cost ?? :distracted:

From what I know, an outfitter that is using a 2014 EV converted to lithium said there was a small problem with motor overheating. So with the li-ion provinding more runtime, the issue may come back more often (depending of the use).

As you may already know, the Ranger EV might overheat if used in hot climate at low speed for an extended amount of time. Polaris is selling a kit "EV Motor Cooling Fan Kit Part# 2204419" but some owners install fans themselves.

Other then that I did not heard of any issues as li-ion are superior in almost every way.

Would probably have to change the charger but I guess that would be part of the "kit."?? Li-ion's typically don't "run down" gradually giving a warning to head for a charger, one second they're fine, the next they are done, but if you can almost double your mileage between charges, who cares!! :D

Do they change the controller in these conversions? Mine doesn't like my batteries at full charge. Battery minder optimized them too much. I don't use it as often now that is warmer weather. Holding charge good when in storage. I imagine the heat of the summer will be a different story.

Voltronix uses the OEM charger, but both it and the controller have to be shipped to Voltronix for reprogramming. The reprogramming is included in the kit price, and they ship them back to you with the rest of the kit, also included in the price. I received my kit late yesterday and will take inventory early this morning and post some pictures. If you go this route be sure you pack the charger and controller really well. UPS tried to destroy mine, fortunately only cosmetic damage.
