Since I didn't make it to Lake St. Peter this winter w/ the sled, I figured my 1st decent Ranger ride would be up there. Unloaded by the MTO yard on Hwy 62 by the 620 jct (Coe Hill turnoff). I rode 89 miles for the day. I didn't see any deer or elk, but some some turkeys, a snapping turtle, a grouse & just south of LSP a wood**** (timberdoodle). I haven't seen 1 of those in several years. I could probably count what I seen over the years on 1 hand.

If you're on Faceplant, you can check my pics here:

To clear things up, this is what a wood**** looks like:

Yes that's a wood****....when they spooke and fly, they go straight up 8' feet, stop for a split second(this is when the gun is shouldered and trigger is pulled) then proceed to fly erratically off without being hit with pellets. They prance in a funky jerking walk....great to watch and eat.(if your a better shot then I am)

Yeap, they're fast and erratic for sure. We have them around, but you don't see them much. I think they're a mostly nocturnal bird.
X2 on their flight patterns

Ruffed grouse as an upland game bird are more widespread in southern Ontario. Spruce grouse (stupid things) are in northern Ontario (past the Sault/Soo & North Bay). Wild turkeys which were reintroduced in the 80s have spread far & wide across the southern part of the province.

I think the pheasant hunting in Ontario is "put and take" at game farms now. That was the game of choice for my grandfather in the 30s & 40s. We still have his 12 gauge Iver Johnson side by side shotgun. My grandmother gave it to him for Christmas back in '32, the same year my father was born.

the nephew has "inherited" it as his since bro & I each have our own shotguns. He's 17 & has shot a couple of grouse w/ it, carrying on the hunting tradition.

Over to the railbed today for a ride towards the south. The destination was a retired co-worker's farm. He lives about a mile from the railbed. Ended up he was home but it was a nice 59 mile round trip. Lots of ATVs & SxSs/UTVs out. This weekend is our long May weekend, Victoria Day is on Mon' celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday. It's also known as the May 2-4 weekend LOL.

No Rangers or RZRs, but met an ACE. I also met a Pioneer. They look a bit narrow if you ask me. On the way home I followed a Arctic Cat UTV & a Can-Am Commander for a few miles.

The ride started out w/ this event occurring:

I guess this would be a big brother to an ACE since it's a single seater as well
