Looking at my ranger 400 tonight I noticed a divot rubbed into the head bellow the carb. The ranger is snorkeld and the fuel overflow hose has a small inline fuel filter at the end of the over flow to keep water from coming back in. The bottom of the fuel filter was against the head of the motor. It was where the fuel filter was against the head that I noticed the divot. It looks to me like the plastic and maybe some over flow fuel had pooled there and was beginning to melt threw the head. My question is, was the fuel filter put their when I had the shop snorkel it or do they come factory with that filter on it. If it came factory that way is the divot I'm seeing that way from the factory or has the plastic and gas combined started to burn a hole threw my head? I don't think it has gone far enough to do any damage and I'm going to reroute the over flow tube but I'm just wondering from any other ranger 400 owners if they have this same divet like the hose is made to lie there.

Thanks for any replies, I will try and get a photo up tomorrow

doesn't look like it's rubbed into the head, but in to the side of the cylinder jug. However, it's not through yet, and I think what I'd do if I were you is just take off that vent hose, cut 1/2 inch off of it, and put it back on. shouldn't be any more problem. There's nothing magical about the length as long as you have that filter on the end.
