I have a 2010 ranger xp 800 LE. Lately I am having trouble with the axle on the passenger side (while in single wheel mode) coming out from the transmission. I can push the splines/axle back in and it will be fine for a little while, but eventually will do it again.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'd suggest replacing the circlip on the end of the shaft. 7710577 is the part number for the circlips on your rear axles.

There is a groove inside the tranny hub that the circlip rides in. If it is filled with dirt/rust (etc...), it will not allow the circlip to lock in place. So make sure that groove is perfectly clean (use a 90* pick) before installing new clips.

Thank you Thorman and commanderjjones.

A follow-up, does the "circlip" go on the axle prior to inserting in the hub? The splined shaft fits tight and I don't see how there would be room for a clip.

Thanks again for your help.

The clip is in the groove at the end of the splines, it basically goes in first.

Ditto on using anti-seize.....and liberally. Although getting it out isn't the problem that you're having now, they can be a real bear to remove.

The circlip is placed into the groove on the axle, then the axle is inserted into the diff' socket.
