2011 Ranger 800 XP high output EFI. Driving along, temp 195 degrees and it just stops running, no warning, no backfire, just like turning off the key. Stop the Ranger, turn off the key, press the brake pedal, wait until the fuel pump builds pressure, and it starts with good power and acceleration. Might run for 5 seconds or 5 minutes and then dies again and again and again. ??????? I checked all electrical connections and none are loose. Got it on a trailer and home then started it and it unloaded under its own power. Parked it and put it in neutral and it kept running but I did notice that when I ran it above 3800 rpm in Neutral that it has a constant even miss.

ANY IDEAS ??????

When it dies.......is it just the engine or do you lose all electrical power (lights, fan, guages, etc...)?

On the surface it sounds like either bad fuel (water) and/or fuel pump, especially considering it either runs 5 seconds or 5 minutes.

Check elec.connections under drivers seat.

My money is on a bad fuel pump. especially with a machine of that age.

I've had my 2011 do that very thing when the fuel pump was giving up on me.

i have a 2015 570 ranger and it does the same thing shuts down will check out what others say, i just registered here

Welcome to PRC, James! Before you start throwing parts at it, take your battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested. A bad (or low) battery can run your accessories but not your engine. These machines are real picky about the battery condition.

Hi James, like Forde suggested, have the battery checked first. You may want to check the gas tank vent and make sure it is clear. A possible bad ignition switch and vapor lock could cause that also. If you could provide more details of what is going on when it happens may help ie. how long you have been riding/angle of ride/ temperature/ TYPE OF FUEL YOU ARE USING..........etc.

Remove bottom seat base, pull out storage container Driver side, ECM should be mounted to the kick panel.

I found it trying to read up on it there is no way to test it ? How do I know if that is what’s wrong? I didn’t have any luck locating a replacement one either.

By your description of nothing working, I have seen the ECM plug/plugs come loose.
I just want you to verify that the connections are good.

mine does this too! i’m assuming it is the bad gas, saying as i have changed my air filter and spark plugs i’m not sure what to do.
