Since I bought my new trailer last week I've had my eye on a tool box that's on sale at Lowes to mount up front on the tongue. I picked one up today and decided to just load it in the back of the Ranger with all the proper tools to bolt it down and head towards my other barn. The tool box fit in the Ranger like a glove. I was really surprised how well it fit. If anyone is looking for a nice tool box that doesn't break the bank then this would make a good one. A couple of lock and ride plugs and your good to go.

The toolbox is a Kobalt brand, Slim-Line, 1000 Series, Compact for smaller trucks. The model number is 67697 and I got it for $148.00.

I recently made a post of the install that can be viewed at the following link.

Here's a few pics,

And one picture of it's final destination.

Thanks guys. John the back winshield is plexiglass mounted in a steel frame from Polaris. The entire cab system is the Polaris Deluxe Steel cab system if you look at it on their web site. I ordered everything I've got through our sponsors and saved a pretty nice chunk. I don't have the doors on right now but I really like how easy it is to take them on and off, about 30 seconds. I was just on Polaris's web site looking at the cab asseccories and seen where they've lowered theri prices some (they needed to) so you may get that stuff even cheaper.

Brian,
Great find!! I'd love to do something similar. Can you expand a bit more on how you attach it to your Ranger? How are you attaching it to your trailer? You mention the lock and ride plugs. Since I've never seen the lock and ride plugs in person, how do they attach to your toolbox?

Thanks!

Fred,

I just measured the inside of the box, it's 48 3/4" long and 11 3/4" wide inside. A feller could put a few guns inside for sure. If ya need any other measurements just let me know.

What is the width of the lower part of the box?
I am looking for something like this that I can use for rifles.
Thanks

The lock and ride plugs are just long round plugs that drop into the lock and ride holes in the bed. The plugs have a flip lever on top so when you flip it down it expands the rubber grommet which tightens it up in the hole. Several members have made their own plugs too. To mount the tool box on the Ranger all you would have to do is take the flip arm off of the plug, set the toolbox over the plug where you want it, mark it, drill your holes and then set the box over topf the plugs. The last thing will be to put the levers back on top and flip them down. I tried to find a picture of the plugs to show ya but didn't have much luck. As far as mounting it to the trailer I just used a decent size self tapping screw with rubber washers and drill right through the box down into the tonque. I've got two screws on each side. Hope this helps. If ya need anything just let me know.

Brian,
Thanks for the explanation, it makes perfect sense! I've seen pix of the lock and ride plugs, but couldn't figure out how you attached them. Looks like I'll be dropping a few hundred more on my Ranger :)
