[:(] Well the 6x6 has taken a dive. It started to run like crap. Runs good at an idle but as soon as you step on it, it "pops" thru the carb and almost dies, it can hardly move itself. We changed fuel filter, plug, and cleaned the carb. No luck. Ive talked to an expirenced mechanic and he thinks it's the cam.
How hard is it to change? They want $63 an hour to work on it here. I need some help, we are in a bad way as this is my Dad's only way to get around the farm and bark orders at us. He needs this Ranger!

I think I would do some more research. It sounds like it could be a ECU (electronic brains) issue or maybe water in the fuel.

Did you drain the bowl on the carb?

While you have the valve cover off and checking the valve lash, just take a look at the lobe on the cam, the exhaust lobe (the one in the middle)should have the same lift as the two intake lobes. Chances are the exhaust lobe is worn down and not allowing the exhaust to escape, thats why it pops through the carb when the intake valve opens. With the new cam installed, make sure to use the 0W40 oil and avoid short trips that cause condensation to accumualate in the oil.

More research for sure. I did drain the bowl and compeletly clean the carb, no sign of any dirt or water. I guess I'll take the cover of and watch the valve movement. Does anyone have the procedure and specs for a valve adjusment?

The Ranger lives 25 miles from me and Ive been busier than a tall dog in a meat locker around here so Dad decided to take it to the stealer. Turns out it was the cam. Cost $500 to get er fixed! OUCH! Oh well she's back and running great again. While at the dealer my brother got to ride a RZR, wish I could have been there and done that!
