A friend of mine has a rubberdown 2in lift on his 06 xp ranger and he has ripped the boot on his front right cv joint twice. He also has 2in spacers on his wheels. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what could be causing this. I also have the 2in lift and 2in spacers and have not had this problem. He does tend to push his ranger a little more than I do.

Hey Coachconman, sorry to hear about this, I originally had the instructions like the sportsman where you would grind away a small bit of material on the struts so they would not rub the CV boots. I was later told by a few of my testers that since the Ranger has a much wider stance, the angle doesnt get steep enough to cause any rubbing. can you take a look and see if for some reason he is almost rubbing the CV boots on the strut housing and let me know. I do appreciate your business and I wish you had let me know about this sooner, I would have made this suggestion sooner and possibly saved him a CV boot replacement. Let me know how it all works out please, thanks.

I have a 2" lift on mine and have had a rear boot tear already. If you look closely at the folds of the boots, they can sometimes develop a crease from continously touching each other as a result of the angle created by the lift. A tip given to me from a guy at Gorilla was to cinch the small end of the boot further up on the axle so that the folds no longer make contact. When you do this, however, you need to make sure that the upper clamp is tight so the boot doesn't slip back down. I've done this and it works great.

I will check with him and see if that's the case. He thought maybe the brake line was hitting the boot but wasn't sure. Sorry, for not checking with you first. I was just throwing it out there to see what others had to say.
