Hey Guys I am new here. I was watching the show "Beyond Tomorrow" on the science channel and I was introduced to the PGO Bug Rider. Wow did it look like fun! Unfortunately the Bug Rider only seems to be available in Europe. So in my search to find it here in the U.S. I found the RZR. It also looks amazing! I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the PGO and how it compares to the RZR. Also in England the Bug Rider is street legal. Can the RZR be registered to drive on the street here in the states ? Thank you very much for your input.

Never heard of the Bug Rider. As for registering the RZR to ride on the street, it all depends on the State in which you reside. Different States have different laws concerning the regulation(s) of ATV's and UTV's.

For my State of West Virginia, the laws are relaxed when it comes to ATV's. However, a UTV does not fall under the same definition of an ATV. And actually, is more of a Husbandry, or "Farm Machinery" than anything. And with that said, place a slow moving vehicle placard on the back, a bale of hay in the bed, and drive it where you want. Like a tractor!

I saw that beyond tomorrow episode, the PGO Bug rider looks like the ones that sell on home depot on the motor lawn section, when I saw the program It brought to my attention the 2 inches of suspension travel, its like comparing the VW bug with a baja prerunner truck.

The PGO Bugrider (from what I know) is a rebranded line of Chinese/Taiwanese made dune buggy units that are not really in the same class as the Rhino/RZR etc. They would surely be fun for moderate terrain, but do not offer the 4WD or ground clearance/water crossing abilities of these models. I also think that the reliabilty of these units in the type of terrain most of us encounter would be problematic.

Thanks for the responses. I figured since the RZR is so fast it may be able to drive like a normal car on the road. I wonder now if it could handle 8 plus hours per week as a daily driver. That would be great but I fear it may be pushing it[?] I currently own a Wrangler with 35's and a lift. However with gas prices skyrocketing, I thought maybe I could just downsize and keep all the great qualities of the jeep in a smaller more affordable package. This board is great! [:D]

I didn't see the program but I'll bet the one they featured was the new Bugrider 500.

.

This is as different from the China buggies as you can get. Top speed may be similar but that's about all they would have in common. Plusses for the Bugrider would be good ground clearance and smooth ride (if they use decent shocks--most import trail buggies don't). If sold in the US the price should be about half the cost of the RZR.
Plusses for the RZR would be 4WD, torque, build quality & ruggedness, parts availability, trail access due to narrow overall width, etc. etc. It's apples & oranges--while they're both off-road capable, the Bugrider 500 is intended more for smooth roads & hard-pack trails.

And don't be so quick to dismiss the Chinese buggies. Of course You Get What You Pay For but for $2-3000 they're lots of fun and far better off-road buggies than most people realize.

Oh, I am not dismissing the Chinese made stuff (if you look at the little cart in my post about "The Obligatory Pics" you will see we have one for our 4 and 6 year old to share). I would not, however, put them through what I put my 4 wheelers and UTV's I have owned through. We sell some of the smallest (40-90) cc ATV's in the store, and while I think they are great for light duty use by kids, I can not see one lasting long at Tellico. This 500 model may be different than the others I have seen, but I have seen some really nice looking Chinese-built stuff too, although I still think there are some areas of concern on the type of terrain I would subject them to.

Here in So. AZ they are selling a brand called Roketa. The largest one has a rear mtd 800CC, 3 cyl, Susuki engine with EFI. As I recall, it doesn't have quite the ground clearance of a RZR but has good wheel travel at both ends with dbl A arm front and IRS trailing rear. It looks more like a sand rail than a RZR.

It's a Chinese import and looks very well built with all street legal equipment installed, including steering wheel mtd horn button and column mtd turn stalk. . It evens seems to be finised and detailed better than the RZR and they're 1/2 the price. However they are only 2WD, but it does include a front mtd winch !

They can be seen at www.roketa.com under "go cart".

How can these machines ever shake the image of "lawn karts" or "go carts" if even the manufacturer calls them that [:(!]

Roketa is OK but their 800 breaks axles easily and so far there isn't an improved replacement. Joyner also makes an 800 (and 1100 and 1600...) and I haven't heard any axle complaints for that brand. Of course they DO cost more...

These bigger buggies are great for desert and dunes but won't fit ATV trails. That's where the RZR shines [:)]

...and I hope you're kidding about letting the kids drive a 900Lb. 500cc vehicle capable of 50mph or more! Nothing larger than a 90cc kart should be considered a "toy".

Do you fellas think that the RZR could handle 8 plus hours a week as a daily driver ?? (On top of weekend wheeling of course). Would it have to be regeared to travel at 55 for any length of time ? ?

I don't know why anyone would do that when you can buy a used gas sipping mini car for less than a grand. I wouldn't a RZR would get that great of gas mileage on the road.

OK--you had me wondering when you referred to the machine as a "cute toy". Sounded like you were considering it for a toddler [:0]

Folks who should know better fasten blocks to the pedals so their wee ones can drive these. Lawsuits are on the increase as some fools try to profit from their stupidity. This is a "hot button" topic for me (people not taking the capabilities--and danger--of these seriously). I'm a moderator at http://www.buggynews.com/
Occasionally someone will post a news story or Youtube clip of people doing truly stupid deadly things on these minibuggies (NOT our members).

Many sandrail guys consider SxS's to be "toys" too [;)]

Not trying to lecture anyone. Off my soapbox now...

Gas sipping mini car for less than a grand [?]

So it seems as though no one really can say yet whether or not it is a crazy idea to try to use a RZR as a daily driver ??
