After I floor my ranger to get top speed it seems to sputter (at max speed, not the intial gas). I have to back it off just a hair to get it to stop. Does anyone else have this problem? Is it normal? Did I even explain myself correctly?

Like everyone else said Rev. limiter. Mine 500cc seem to do it lest after 20 hours. Don't know if I am actually going slower or just it smoothed out a little with time.

The rev limiter limits the rpms so you don't over rev the motor. Like most vehicles it is lower than necessary and you can gain some performance by raising it with an ECU/EFI Tuner. Most ECU units on sport quads raise the limit about 1000 rpm so I am assuming that it's the same for the UTVs.

The ONLY way to raise the rev limit on the XP's is with the SP ECU at this time. Bikeman is supposed to be working on something, but I am not sure where thats at.

I find with my 700, that for in low range, I have no problem hitting the rev limiter, yet in high range, it will not do it. I have adjusted the throttle cable to the point, I can't get the unit into gear and have to turn off the bike to engage reverse/low/high, still won't hit the governor.

Any ideas what I can do?

I haven't touched the motor yet as for mods. at all, 27" Mudlites is all that is done so far, the rest of my mods are on the way.

My 07 XP hit the limiter in low keeping up with some other UTV's. I was new enough and liked the amount of power I had so I ran it in low instead of high. Now I realize that I can get there in high just as good in most places. I only use low when it's necessary. I've never hit the limiter in high, but I'm not a speed deamon eather.

It all depends on the amount of added weight you have put into the 700 or if you have put on much taller tires. If you have added quite a bit of weight and/or you have added much taller tires you may not be able to hit the rev limiter in high.

I am in the same situation with my current sport quad as I have put over sized tires on it and that combined with my fat butt on it holds is back in 5th gear from hitting the limiter. There just isn't enough motor to overcome the gear ratio and weight I have on it. Now I can hit the rev limiter in 1-4th but not in 5th.

I would suspect that this is the case in your situation. Have you added larger tires and other accessories that have added significantly to the weight of your 700?

OOPS! Sorry I missed the fact that you have 27" tires on it. How about anyone else? Are you having any trouble hitting the rev limiter with 27" tires?

I had about 700 lbs in my 07 xp, i was in low gear going up a medium incline. I was at about 15MPH and the engine started to sputter. RPM's were at about 5800. Does this seem right?

Should I been in high gear instead?

In high gear, I've gotten to 6200RPM and the machine did not even sputter (not caring anything but me)

I've never ran into the rev. limiter, just assume it to be the tires and extra weight (25 gallon sprayer in back). Just as well, I would only find out how fast it would go!
