I know... I know... Another tire post :livid: but I just want to know what the weight of this combination is… I will be going 26" x10 on front and 26"x 12 on rear but I haven't /can't decided on 12's or 14's. I have a 2013 800 6x6 and I want to have as little drag on the drive line as possible to prevent any if not all premature wear.
So far factory tires are holding up pretty well and the rig has surpassed all expectations. Our family friend was so impressed that he went and bought a 900XP..:emmersed:
Here's my take. I have a '14 Ranger 6x6 that I purchased with 27" Swamp Lites and I wouldn't recommend them. Too weak of a sidewall for the weight of the 6x6. They seem to be fine on the 4x4's, but I will only run 8 ply tires on a 6x6. I have about 350 miles on my 26.5" Pitbull Growlers and would buy them again in a heartbeat. They have taken an absolute beating and just keep asking for more.
Edit: I was searching some posts and replied to this before I realized your post was made in March. What did you end up going with?
Nothing yet still thinking about 26 swamp lites.. Next season I will definitely be on some different rubber. Factory tires running out of tread. They at least have enough for the last couple of rides of this season.
I was thinking about 27x14's but 27's might be a little too much for factory axles, at least for 3 years until warranty runs out..
How'd they do otherwise besides the soft sidewalls?
That seems to be the consensus for many who have ran them on a SXS. I just don't think they're built heavy enough to withstand the weight and are intended more for a quad.
They performed ok aside from the sidewalls. I wouldn't waste my money again though, especially after dismounting them myself and personally seeing how thin the sidewalls are. My buddy bought them from me and runs them on his '14 800 4x4 and he hasn't had any problems. I'm usually loaded pretty good and when you're off camber to the point that only one rear tire is holding all the weight I think it's just too much. I wouldn't hesitate to run them on a 4 wheeler or smaller side x side but the 6x6's are pigs. My middle tires are constantly acting as pivot points (my dented wheel lips are proof) so sidewall durability is my primary concern.
If you get Swamplites anyway, get the 27's over the 26's if you don't plan on running chains. Deeper lug and more ground clearance.
So what tires do you guys recomend for the 6x6???
I do really like the Swamp Lites but what i am hearing is that they are no good.
The biggest i want to go is 26.5 or possibly a 27. I am also going to get a set of beadlocks when i get my new tires.
If you don't mind spending the extra money and want a great "all around" tire, I would strongly suggest Pitbull Tires. The sidewalls are nearly equivalent to light truck tires, they have a 1,000 lb load rating, nice flat profile being a radial, a great ride, deep rim guards, and phenomenal traction just about everywhere. I've been in/on muskeg, mud, slimy wet hills, dry rocky hills, sand, paved roads, ect and I've yet to find an area they don't do well in. I run the 26.5's which run true to size and will leave you enough room to chain the middle wheels for winter use. I don't think beadlocks are necessary, airing your tires way down on a 6x6 is asking for pinch flats. I run my fronts at 10 lbs and the rears at 12 lbs and they still conform to the terrain just fine. The nice thing about radials is that they retain their profile and most of their ride quality with higher pressures.
If you ever want to check out a set in person let me know, I'm the in same area as you.
On another note, who'd you get your Trail Armor skid plate from.
Thanks for the info, which pit bills did you go for?
I went to sidebysidestuff.com cost me about $800 with shipping to my door from the pro armor factory..
Super easy to install just a few minor trimmings to fit with the pro armor doors. No need to tip rig over just throw it on some jacks and your good
OK it's official I NEED new tires. Still on the fence for tires Either Swamp Lites or Mudzillas.. I will be going with 27x12x12 on rear and 27x10x12 on front, no matter what tire. Need a good all round tire, ride in Sand, Mud, Muskeg, Trails and do a litter Boondocking through trees and willows. What is going to be the best choice ?? I like the looks of both tires and am open to any suggestions.
I almost lost a bead on front tire on trail in to Hunting camp and when the rim bent, I ended up with an inch and a half bulge in the tire.... I will be getting Method 406 bead locks for rims to prevent any possible issues in the future, especially being 30 miles from the truck.
Several good choices, I'm assuming you are in AK as well....currently I'm running Terms, best all around tire I've used hands down....i've run a lot of different tires...keep in mind the terms are soft so will wear more quickly, but the softness is part of why the traction is so darn good with them in all conditions, expect ice of course but no tire does well on ice...
They run smooth and perform well...
Other than that you can't really go wrong with any of the 8 ply tires...most of them will do fine, high centering is what will get you stuck in the mud, for the most part if you're dragging bottom too much no mud tire is going to get you through... I'd go with a tough tire that performs well all around versus a dedicated mud tire...
If you do want a good mud tire my buddy that lives in the valley is selling a set of lightly used Outlaws ...
I would love to have a set of Terminators but 28's are just a little big for stock axles and suspension...
I do want a set of good around tires. But I'm limited with a stock setup.. maybe next year I will get some upgraded axles and a small lift. But until then 27's are my max.. And I want a good set of tires That will last me 7+ years and not spend $900+ on a set of tires just to get rid of them in a year.
So do you know if there is another tire similar to the Terminator style only a little smaller??
If you want long lasting, tough tire, near stock size I'd take a peek at the 589's....I'm must say though, I've never had any tire last 7 years...not sure you're going to find one to fit that bill...
Ok.. maybe not 7 years but I want something that is going to be worth the $$ and last a while. I am still kind of on the fence about what tires to choose. I am thinking about the Mudzillas or the Zillas but not sure it the weight of the 6X6 would be an issue for the Zillas and at 38.5 pounds each for 27x12x12 that seems kind of heavy for stock Axles. I want to try and hold off on after market axles for at least another year.
As far as tires go I want / need something that kicks butt in mud but is also decent on hard pack. I like the Silverback's, the Mud B**ch's, and the Out Laws, and think that they might be all great tires but want to know other peoples opinion about them
Kicks butt in mud
Decent on hardpack
Light weight
Long lasting
Great price
....if they made a tire that fit your list then everyone would be running them
You're going to have to make a trade off somewhere, and for 99% of the riding up here you will be much better served with a tough tire that does not 'kick butt' in mud.....most of the mud you can avoid or has a solid bottom, and if the stuff you cant avoid gets you high centered then you would be stuck most of the time anyways regardless of tire.....

I know the exact tire might not exist but is there any that at least semi light weight (30 pounds and lighter)and still kicks butt in mud and is decent on hard pack?
The price might hurt a little but you get what you pay for in most cases...
The running gear is no place to skimp especially if you are in the middle of nowhere and you have a breakage
No one makes good aftermarket axles for the rear anyway so don't let that stop you. None of the back four axles are the same as the ones on the 800 4x4. I haven't physically compared them side x side, but the part numbers are all different. Only the front axles are the same.
Zillas will be too light. When you're loaded down, all that weight will often be on only 1 or 2 rear tires and the 6x certainly isn't pivoting around the obstacle. You'll drive that tire into whatever is in the way.
I'm not aware of any tire that is lighter than 30lbs that kicks butt in mud....but your definition of 'kicks butt' may differ from mine...
If mud performance is your priority then you will have to accept a heavier tire that will not wear as well or ride as well on hard pack....
In my opinion the terminators do well in mud and ride decent on hard pack, but are the worst wearing tire I've ever tried and are a good bit more than 30lbs .... You will probably run into the same problem regardless what tire you decide on...
I've run all kind of tires on 6x's all over Ak, my suggestion is the 589's....tough/long lasting, decent in mud, acceptable ride on hard pack, not too heavy ( but not a light weight either )....
My next tire will be a truck tire and I'm certain I'll be able to get everywhere I've always gone running mud tires like Outlaws or Terms...
