tailgate latch adjustment

I'm extremely new to the ranger world, bought my first one used the other day a 2003 ranger 500. Went to open the tailgate today and from what can see the handle lifts the whole way up but the latches dont come in far enough. Is there an adjustment if so can some point me in the direction. Thank you
