Any thoughts on painting the muffler heat shield with hi-temp stove paint? I would think since that paint works good on a wood stove it would surely hold up to the heat from a muffler wouldn't it?
Easy way to tell would be running the machine really hard and then checking the temp of the heat shield with a tempature gun. If it gets up to 500° just buy a stove paint that will handle above and beyond that temp.
Isn't the heat shield aluminum (so it shouldn't rust)? I would be afraid that painting it might cause it to hold more heat.......probably not enough to cause any harm, but might make it less effective.
Thanks Jerry glad to be back on here and glad to be back in a Ranger had a long dry spell lol. The main reason for wanting to paint the heat shield is because it sticks out like a sore thumb with it being shiny and pretty large. I appreciate all the feedback and special thanks to teshreve for the link, it's always nice to see where something has been done and see the end results .
Got to O'riellys and get VHT flameproof paint I think it's good for like 2000F I used it on my motorcycle exhaust it's the only paint that wouldnt burn off
