What do you use to tie down your Ranger when on a trailer. I've been using some lighter ratchet tie downs and noticed last night one was nearly torn all the way through [:0].

I look at some heavier ones today but thought I would ask for some opinions.

My only thoughts on that is they will only be as good as you can anchor them, and i didn,t see anyway you could lock it to the trailer to kept it from being stolen.

Try Wal-Mart.. They have a 2 1/2 " ratchet strap for ~$20 each. It ia super tough and strong.

I'm with Bill, go to Wally World and get the 2 or 2.5 inch straps. they are cheap, I acctually use 5 when I take the Ranger long distances, 2 front, 2 back, and one across the floorboard.

Those straps around the tire are a bad idea, unless you buy the basket style that wrap around the sides of the tire too. A little movement and those Cabelas straps will slip off.

If you are getting tearing, consider new contact points. I use some heavier 1" ratchet straps... one up front that I lace through the bumper to hold the cart forward, and two in the back that I criss-cross from the middle holes in the frame back down to the trailer. Crossing them holds the machine back and side to side very well without the back tires interfering with the straps.

I've been using a cheap autozone set of four. Typically two on the back hooked to the holes on the receiver hitch plate and the other two hooked on the front to the front bumper/skid plate. This last time I hooked the front ones to the nerf bars and it tore at the nerf bar. I can't tell that it rubbed on anything and don't recall any hard bounces or a rough ride that would have caused it.

Probably just the strap is old and worn out, also need to use a heavier strap.

Yeah, I have had straps do that... show wear for no apparent reason. Leaves you scratching your head. But I have had really good luck with the way I have been doing it on this particular vehicle.

It never hurts to just invest in some thick, heavy duty tie downs and trim them so that they are used only on the Ranger. They last a long time, and you will never be tempted to use them on another toy, or loan them out to someone.

I bought a pair of cargo lockers today that bolt to the trailer. They ratchet and automatically retract and are rated for 3000 pounds. I will most likely add another pair. I don't have pictures but will try to get some.

I use 4 1200# ratchet straps and one or two 3000# ratchet strap depending on drive.
First I hook two of the 1200# straps on the front in the elongated holes under the radiator and run them back to a center tie down loop on the trailer. Second I put two more of the 1200# straps from the back in the lowest hole on the strut to the same tie down loop in the middle of the trailer. The front two straps criss cross under the Ranger. Third I run a 3000# strap across the floor and ratched down on the side rail of the trailer. If I am going a long ways I will put an extra 3000# strap under the dump bed and across the tires.
