My soon to be son-in-law and I took my '07 out for a cruise on Saturday. Now being he's 30 years younger than me the first thing he did when we hit a straight stretch was to open her up. I haven't driven it much past 30 mph in the 2 months I've had it. Anyway once we hit 40 it started to sputter and buck and wouldn't go any faster.
Is there a speed limiter or do I have other problems? It run flawlessly right up until 40 mph.

I have had my 2007 700 XP since new and can get to around 50 MPH with single rider and no windshield. With 2 riders, gear and windshield on I doubt I would get much more that 40 MPH. However, I have never had any issues with sputtering or limiting at max speed and will need to have the experts chime in but never experienced this scenario. It will be interesting to find out what it is!

Marco, check for EFI codes first but I'd say you may have a TPS out of adjustment or a fuel pump going south.. The 700's like to crack the throttle body adapters where the flange bolts to the head also which would really lean it out at the top end. To check for EFI fault codes ............trans in neutral/ roll key to the ON position (not start) three times and leave in the ON position the third time. You will see it say waite or wail or anything but WAIT and then it will either spew two digit fault code/s like 22 or 45 etc or 61 which means END of codes.

It sounds like your hitting the rev limiter. An 07 isn't as fast as the 09s, and if your belt is worn it would behave just as you have described. Aworn belt can cost you 5 mph easily.
