I have a 2015 XP900 and mostly use it for plowing in the winter. I have snowmobiles and the trails around my house get beat up so I would like to purchase a 5-6ft wide drag with a pan to level and smooth the trails.

I have researched the tracks and the Tatou 4S camoplast seem to be the best all around track. I think its going to work well once the trails get packed down enough so the tracks can ride on top. I don't think its going to work as well for fresh snow conditions but great otherwise. Road crossings may get a bit sketchy.

I am thinking I may have to beef up the clutching to a duraclutch for heavy duty applications but not sure about anything else? I have heard that the snow dust can clog the intake to the clutch after a while and cause it to get hot? Not sure if this intake would need to be relocated or not, don't really want it in the cab due to the noise.

Anyone have any experience grooming with a ranger on tracks? Or how much pulling power you may have on fresh or packed trails? I am not ready to spend the money on the tracks and groomer if it is too much for the ranger.

My camp was not far , 4 or 5 kilo. I already have since 45 years snomobile , it my second SXS , put tracks , full cab , Heather , wiper , on my ranger xp 900 eps , it was so confortable . last year , my wife and I like so mutch , we sold the ski-doo last month , for your question , yes I take the XP for grooming , and it go well on hi , no belt prob. you just have to make Hitch longer , because the back track are longer than the machine , you have to make Hitch 24in. long X 16 in. on the side , because the ranger with tracks has 6 feets wide , I come back with picture .

Longer hitch is a great tip, makes sense because the track stick so far behind machine. What brand tracks are you running?

I've never seen anything like this, and I'm intrigued. Any chance you can post a video of this thing in action?

That is a trail drag John, I've made several over the years for snowmobiling. The bigger factory ones have hydraulics that lift the cutter bar to cut the high spots off the trail and then the rear expanded mesh smooth out the loose snow. With this drag the front angle iron is the cutter bar and the middle bar welded facing forward to catch the snow and leaves the snow in the low spots and the mesh smooths it out. The spring hitch is for 'when' you catch on rocks and stumps so you don't stop dead and break something.(like your neck)

Great, and thanks for the description. The hitch looks to be offset, what does that do that straight back wouldn't?

Knowing less than nothing about snowmobile trails (or snowmobiles!) I would think that having it offset would allow you to smooth a wider trail. Looks like the offset to the right smooth's the right track/wheel track while the return trip would do the other side.

HAHAHA !!!! Every body win . stainlessman , good description better than me in English , and Fswan you right to , The hitch looks to be offset , because at long the ranger tracks make moguls , and its 6 feets wide , I have offset to the right smooth's the right track/wheel track while the return trip would do the other side , and 6 inchs offset wider help to take fresh snow on side off the trail

Back in the day, we used to drag a box spring from an old bed out of an abandoned house around the baseball diamond with a 3 wheeler, and it would leave track similar, I think. Our objective though was to see who could hang on the longest. :fat:
