So, I want to think @Deanhunter for posting the idea/question on this thread...

http://www.prcforum.com/forum/203-2...rzrs/59459-speed-key-option-xp900-ranger.html

I ordered this locking key...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TR5BSE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and these plugs...

I essentially, made an extension cord that plugged inline with the factory plugs, and then put the locking switch inline with one of the wires in the extension. This allow me to "turn off" the switch in the console to break the circuit making the polaris believe that the seatbelt is not plugged in. Therefore, the 10MPH max will be enforced. I have about $20 in parts in this, which I feel is way better than the $299 yellow key which allows 25MPH. I installed the switch in the center console, but in retrospect, I wish that I had not installed it where I did as you can see the back of the switch from the back seat (see the last picture). However, I think that it is a great modification, and will be great for the kids.

Here are the pictures along the way...

Very nice job, thanks for taking the time to do a write up.
Simple but effective.
I really like that the speed is reduced to 10mph for the children.

(I do agree with you on the key placement)

I think you should have made two and sent (DeanHunter) one! Just sayin. LoL

That's what is so great about this forum, put an idea out there and people can just run with it, love it!

Very slick solution. It's weird that mine goes 15mph with the seat belt lockout. Did Polaris change this in an ECU update?

Awesome idea, until the kids get smart enough to just plug the original harness back in when you aren't looking.. LOL

Someone needs to figure out a way to do this on older models now.

Ya, I almost did not use the plug to make it more "permanent", but I put the other plug so far up under the console, that they would have to take off the console to get to the plug.

However, with the fact that you can see the back of the plug due to me not thinking about there not being a back on the console, all they really have to do it jumper the pins back there. I really hate that the console is open to the back.

Just don't tell the kids about the circuit and they would never know to even look for it.

I had my 6 year old helping solder the connections & crimp the connectors. I don't want one of those kids that only knows how to push buttons on a tablet or game controller.

In some ways, I be proud of him figuring out that he could jump it ;-)

I believe the source of most of the old pictures was photobucket and just recently some things were updated. The update made most of the older pictures disappear due to compatibility issues. Could be wrong, Forde would probably know better about the issue.

Not sure what happened to the pics. Might want to PM JW and see if he still has them.

I saw in an old review (not here) that the yellow key came with the Ranger 900. Is that true? I never got a yellow key. It would come in handy this summer as my nephew from France is coming to Colorado. The last time he was here he bashed my R/C truggy into the only set of goal posts in a 10 acre field.

They don't come with the yellow key. That is about a $300 option called the Speed Key...

It limits the ranger to 25 MPH. I am the OP that started this thread, and I just taped into the seatbelt harness with a key keyed switch to do nearly the same thing but 10MPH & much cheaper.

I re-read the first post in more detail. Are the connectors you posted a direct fit for the OEM connectors?
