I have a 2014 900 crew and am struggling trying to find a vibration or rattle near the engine. It only makes the noise under load at higher rpms. Sounds like a heat shield or something similar but I can't find it. Hope one of you might be able to help.
Jimmycat did you ever find what was causing the noise? I having the same problem. It's a vibration/ rattle /tapping while under load at high rpms. Have had it serviced with new belt valves adjusted and all. Dealer said they don't know what it is. I know it isn't the exhaust I have removed the heat sheild and put metal hose clamps in places that could vibrate. I can put it in neutral and red line it and no noticeable noise. Only under load/acceleration. I'm puzzled
yes i did locate the problem. it was the heat shield missing screws but the loudest problem was an exhaust leak. replaced the springs pulling the muffler and pipe together as well as the gasket. the gasket was not smooth. most likely defect from factory.
I had this same issue.... took me a year to find it... turned out to be springs on the exhaust. It did it since day one, so I couldn't figure it out until the donut seal became wore down creating a leak. Replaced seal and put on new springs and that noise is gone. That crap was driving me nuts. Even if you don't have a leak yet (and you will eventually) replace your exhaust springs... and I'd be willing to be it solves your problem
