I purchased a used like new condition 2013 Polaris Ranger 800 mid size last fall, and I went to use the winch for the 1st time this week. And it wouldn't pull. Come to find out the endhousing clutch assembly was stripped. I'm replacing the part, however now I'm a bit skeptical about how this winch will hold up. I don't go in the mud, but would it pull the machine out if I were to get it stuck? What are your thoughts?

I think that a 2,500# winch is a bit "light" for winching UTVs. Most guys go w/ @ least 3 or 4 thousand pound winches. I've got a Warn RT40, a 4,000# winch. I haven't had to use it to unstuck it.

I agree with Kris, you could probably use a little more "poundage!" However, in the meantime, there are a couple of tricks you can use in a pinch to fool the winch into thinking it's a big boy! First, you get the most pull by using all the cable. When there is only one wrap left of the winch spool, your pull is 2500 lbs; if you have 4 wraps left on the spool, your pulling is reduced to 1700lbs. Second, if you get a snatch block and double the cable back on itself, you can increase your pulling power to 5000 lbs. Problem is, there isn't always an anchor point at exactly the right place to do all that!

I forgot the snatch block for doubling your winch's pulling power. I've got 1 in my ammo can, but haven't had to use it, yet.
