I installed two PIAA driving lights and noticed the battery warning light comes on when the lights are on for more than 5-10 minutes. Do you think installing an Optima or Odyssey battery will solve the problem? When I purchased the lights, I was told the Ranger uses an alternator, so there wouldn't be an issue with running the lights while the ingine is running. Do I need to run the lights from an alternate power source? I attached the OEM PIAA wiring harness directly to the battery posts.

On another note... I installed the new XP Belt from Polaris along with a white spring. The performance gain was noticeable. On a slight uphill grade I was running 45 mph (speedo) with the stock belt and spring. With the new belt/spring I am at 47-48 mph(speedo). The big difference was on quickness and how well the engine seemed to put the power to the wheels.

On your Ranger, are you leaving the lights on while idling and that is when the battery light comes on? While running down the trail, you shouldn't see the warning light coming on, even with the stock battery. Yes, the Odyssey battery would be a much better one than stock. Another thing, none of the Rangers have alternators, they are all stators. The 500 Ranger is a 250 watt while the XP is a 500 watt.

I have the 500 and I also have the factory battery in it still. I put 3 extra sets of 50 watt lights on mine too, two sets for the front and one set for back up lights plus the factory lights. I also have a yellow top optima for a back up. I haven't had any problems with the factory battery and I've been running one set of fog lights with the factory lights plus my CD player all at once for a good duration and have had no problems. And its an 05 Ranger.

Thanx everyone.

1. Yes, it's the new XP belt.

2. The warning light came on while motoring down the trail. Thank you for the info everyone. I think I'll try a new battery and see if the problem continues.

Depending on the model, your two Piaa lights could be pulling as much as 6 std driving lights. Piaa makes some pretty serious lights.
