I need to pick up my Ranger this week-end. I have a 5X8 trailer with sides that reduce the inside width by about 3 inches... I do not believe that this trailer is big enough for the 2 hour trip.

If I were to find a trailer with 14" sides, how wide and how long must this thing be? I'm not talking a closed trailer here. Thanks for any info.

Your minimum size trailer needs to be 10 feet in length and 5 feet clear on the floor. Truthfully, that is not wide enough. My trailer is 6 1/2 feet wide and 10 feet long. You have room to wiggle. But, with a drive up, fold down gate, the 10 foot length is pushing it. Find a 6 1/2 X 12 and you will be happier.

BTW, don't use those little 3/4 or 1 inch straps either. Get you some of the good, H.D ones and strap it down good.

Bruce is right about the trailer size. I've got a 6 1/2' X 12' with a ramp gate that works great. You've got plenty of room on each side and a few feet left in length for other items. The only thing that I would've done different is bought a tandem axle trailer about 14' long and the same width as mine. The tandem trailer follows so much better when going down the highway. Don't get me wrong my single axle does fine but it doesn't follow nearly as smooth as a tandem. JMO

I have a 6 1/2 x 14 so I can throw a quad on the trailer as well. Had a 5 x 12 and had to get rid of it due to width. Mine is a single axle and works fine but I sort of wished I had a dual axle.

If your pickup is big enough just haul it back from the dealer in the pickup box. I got my 2007 500EFI about 2 weeks ago and the dealer loaded it in the back of my 98 Dodge Ram 2500 with a forklift. I unloaded it at home by backing up to a dirt bank the same height as the tailgate. Worked great. It was a close fit and a trailer would have been easier to load/unload, but if you don't have a trailer handy, hauling it in the pickup box is always an option if you have a full size pickup.

I pull a 6.5 X 10 also. There is room behind the Ranger for a 120 qt cooler too. If you need more room, choose a 12 or larger. The downside to my 10 so far is finding a decent place to mount the spare. Whichever you choose, get one with full size tires for ground clearance.

Mike

When I bought my Ranger I didn't have a trailer large enough and asked them to deliver it and they did NO CHARGE! You might try that option until you get the right size trailer.

Thanks for all of the advice. I managed to arrange to borrow the minimum recommended size of 5X10 for picking up the Ranger this Saturday. It will take 2 hrs to get it home and I will return the trailer. Then I will look for a little bigger one to buy. I appreciate your input.

How did you make it getting the Ranger home on the 5 foot trailer... tight might be the word, yes?
When you buy, go for the 6 1/2 wide. That comes from a Ranger owner with a 5'. It's a very tight squeeze, every time. And my ZTR won't even go between the rails on it. Wider trailer is in the future for me.
Good luck.

The 5X10 Trailer was a tight fit but did the job. I took it easy becasue it felt like the trailer was maxed out in terms of capacity. I agree that when I BUY a trailer, it should be 6 1/2 inches wide and at least 12 feet long. All in all I spent about 3 hours on the ranger, cruising the neighborhood and doing my pine needle duty. I'm happy with the 500cc model for now. The neighborhood guys were all drooling. :)

6x10 with a gate will work but there isn't any spare room---at least not on mine. Take a look at the "Tie Downs" thread for thoughts on how to secure your new machine as well.
