I have a 2011 800XP with 3700 miles and the original belt. I am curious how long the belt is going to last. Should I replace it and keep the old one for a spare? Or just let it go until it wears out?

I would be tempted to ride it out myself. But on the other hand reality for me would be to put Gates C12 on and keep the stocker for back up. I guess you could do a gear check and make sure you have the necessary tool's with you at all time's to tear it down and get all the shrapnel dug out of the clutches while the tend to get filled with crap when they explode.

Just my 2 cents................I would change it now with that many miles and keep it for a spare. It is a lot more fun picking the time and place to change it then letting the belt decide.

Ditto on the above. I couldn't agree more about being the one deciding when and where it gets changed. The comfort of being on a creeper in the garage floor sure beats the heck outta doing it in the ice and mud while it's freezing.

I myself have seen these belts go as far as about 7000,8000miles myself. And even then, I've never had one on an 800 powered machine leave me stranded. I've had them start to chunk out, but never fully come apart until I got home. sometimes I'd be forced to run a belt for a week or two with a chunk out of it because I had no replacement and it would do it as long as it had to.

The 700 powered machine is a completely different story.

So for me, I never saw a good reason the change the $140 belt until it gave me a reason to. The thought of having the carry a new belt, and the tools to change it along with me for 800-1000 hours kinda stinks when I could use that space for anything else. In the age we live in with cell phones, 2 way radios and such, having one of them is a far better insurance plan for ANY breakdown vs packing an extra belt that covers only one.

That's my take on it.
