The threads I have read seem to all agree that each dealer will get 2 units, and some have also said no more after that until Sept. Is this true, and if so, why would this be the case? I would think that once production started, they would stream out weekly to dealers, so I see no reason to have one in May, 1 in June, and then none for 2-3 months. What am I overlooking here? Some people guessed it was that they wanted to get a limted number in people's hands to let them "work out the bugs", but if this was true it would be a marketing disaster from a confidence in product standpoint.

From what I got from them is that as they come off the line each dealer will get two and then they will start filling orders, there plan is to flood the market but it will take time.

Matt,

I asked them about capacity and they said they had "plenty". From the conversations I had, the 2 per dealer plan was to insure that all dealers at least got that many. They also had no way of knowing or gauging what demand was going to be. The normal dealer ordering period, after the dealer meeting in the summer, will allow them to know what the demand is going to be. I am not sure there will not be any after the initial 2 units, just a slight delay. They may start the order process earlier than normal. From what I heard, there will be no shortage, artificial or real. These things don't have any bugs to work out from what I have seen.

Good to know. My unmentioned other motive for wanting to know is that I have seen where a number of people think dealers will keep them for personal use (including the dealer I am buying from, who initially was going to let me put a deposit down on both of his units, but has since decided to keep the second one for himself). I also heard of at least 4 vendors who I spoke to in the Indy show in Feb saying they were buying one of the initial run for product development, and that was out of 4 I asked about it with, so I assume the actual number to be much higher. I was originally going to purchase both of the ones my dealer was getting before he wanted to keep one, so I could loan one to manufacturers for product development (not to ride, only to develop skids, exhausts, etc. so that they would get to market more quickly, therefore giving us something to sell to owners wanting to individualize there unit). I was then going to just sell it locally after the 6-12 months it would likely be making the rounds for this development. I would just hate to see all the first units (or 90% of them) go to dealers for product R&D (and not enjoyment like mine will be for, or to dealership owners/employees leaving the large number of interested buyers waiting for more months. Your input does assuage those fears considerably. I am excited to see reports of the first ones being delivered, and also to see what Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha, and maybe HONDA?! will bring to market to respond to the challenge.
