Wiring info...? Plus cheap cabin lights...

2054 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  hotrod_361
Hey everyone... when I am not duck hunting, I am a total Xmas lights junkie... Im that guy on your block with the radio station, and synchronized lights...! so Naturally I want to LED up my rig. light bars will be in the near future... but for now I want to add some interior lights...

I got an 2011 crew 800, and want to add some cabin lights.. I found these on bass pro.. they are for boats... but seem like they would be $ for nook lights, bed light, under roof lights for map or whatnot...

What I dont understand is the wiring... I read some threads about adding 2nd batteries, isolators, hot bars, hot only when ignition is on bar etc... but they never quite say WHERE to tap in to add power that is only hot when the engine is running. I am pro at adding stuff straight off the battery, but with little stuff, that is just begging for leaving it on and killing your battery... Is there a thread that shows how the relays and wiring works, where to get power that is only on when running all that? Thanks for any help!!!

yes, you don't have to have it running, just turn the key on or off.
duh. there is a relay that turns that post hot when the key is in and turned...?

On your machine, you'll see the terminals on the right when you open the hood. The bottom stud will be 'hot all the time' (you can see the large red cable running to your battery), the middle stud is ground, and the top one is your 'keyed' power. That circuit also powers the 'cigarette sockets' in your cab. It is protected by the relay in the lower right corner of your fuse box as well as a 20 amp fuse (location noted on the fuse box cover).

thanks! I had seen that site... but not the small strips.

thanks for the info guys!
Carson, I installed of a couple of those lights you show in my Rangers. They light up well and are not obnoxiously bright for inside the cab. I an not into strip lights either.
That is a very small buss bar. I believe I will install a larger one, with
terminals on both sides.

this is 2 12 inch strips running front to ]ack of cabin. I would suggest stay with the red as it does not affect your night vision so bad.
