howdy everyone:

Proud ranger owner here. I've searched the forums for a few hours to see if maybe I could find a solution with no luck.
I have a 2008 Polaris Ranger 700 XP i just bought used. I been troubleshooting this for days now with no luck.

When i start it up I can not rev it up in neutral with the parking brake engaged. Weirdly enough, if I release the parking brake it will rev up fine. Is this a built in safety feature or something?
It will drive completely fine in all the gears.

I've ran a can of Sea-Foam through it already. stumped at this point.

It will just put and putter in neutral with the parking brake engaged when I give it gas. Even if i am revving it up without the parking break engaged and THEN pull the brake it will go back to putting and puttering.

Hi c,
If I remember right, the 2008's were the first year to have the RPM restrictor tied to the EB.......It is suppose to putt with it engaged.....

" idles pretty rough, sometimes back fires." Shouldnt be doing that stuff... Probably T=BAP harness/cracked throttle body adapter.........

EVERY 700 I have had ever laid a wrench on has had bad TBAP wiring with some having less than 100 hrs. OTB is the cure. It is not ‘if’… it is ‘when’ the TBAP harness goes bad..And a code is not always shown. Some symptoms of a bad T-Bap harness are engine will run poorly, no power, poor idle and engine miss. https://otbpowersports.com/product/t-bap-wiring-repair-harness/

Yeah, we thought Jungleman was wrong once (I think back in 2011), but we were mistaken! :highly_amused:

I've got a harness on it's way. In the mean time I have done all the annual maintenance on it. New plugs, wires, oil change, and air filter. I also pulled the t-bap sensor out and cleaned the hell out of it with some sensor cleaner. Seems to be running much better already. I also sprayed some brake cleaner along the throttle body and the air intake to check for leaks, couldn't find any.

My gas gauge now works correctly too after I replaced the float in it.

I will update this post when I get that harness in.

Errrrrrrrrrrr, what nut ? No nut that I know of on the TBAP sensor mounting. The threaded insert is built in to the rubber boot. (Can't remember the last time I dropped a nut:neglected: ) Good job btw, getting that new harness installed. You should be good to go for quite a while .. Check that throttle body adapter for a crack at the mounting flange. EBAY has great replacement knock offs for less .
