2017 Ranger 900 vs 1000

I have been looking at 2017 Rangers. There is quite a lot of difference in the price of a 2017 Ranger 900 EPS when compared to the 2017 1000. I test drove a 900 and it was very impressive and lots of improvements over my 2011 800. I can get a 2017 900 EPS (including $1000 rebate) OTD price about $4000 less than a 1000. Am I missing something, or are the 1000s worth that much more?

I think either would be a big jump over the 800. I guess it depends how much cash you got to blow. Abernathys in Union City Tenn is 400 miles from you. If you don't mind traveling , they sell the cheapest of anyone. I'd check with them. You might get the 1000xp price there of the 900xp locally.

I actually did get a price quote from Abernathy's and it is the best price I have so far on the 900. Another dealer about 2 hours away is within $300 of their price. The local dealer is the worst price so far. I guess they are selling so many they don't have to deal.

4K will ease the pain of any accessories you might be considering. If you were happy enough with you 800, the 900 eps will make you smile. Don't know jack about the 1000, but my 900 eps has gotten me everywhere I have tried to go and has been trouble free for 7900 miles. Good luck with your decision.

That's a good way to look at it Jim....Roof-$300, windshield-$400, rearshield-$300,winch-$400, Duraclutch-$1200, forward A arms-$300, Axles-$400., tires and wheels-$1000.=$4300. ...........Ya I'd go with the 900 too.

I'm comparing a 900 EPS with a 1000 EPS. Best price I have now is about $2800 difference. The 1000 does have some nice features like the paint and nicer wheels. That kind of stuff doesn't interest me much, my offroad vehicles used for hunting and working. The 900s have a $800-$1000 rebate depending on which state I buy from. The 1000s have no rebate.

In my case I changed out the seats to buckets and changed out the tires and wheels to 27" and beadlocks and I don't need the extra power and mode switch.
But like Todd said the paint is nice and doesn't scratch as easy as the plastic but the 1000 wasn't worth the extra $ to me.
It took a couple of years for me to make up my mind on a Ranger XP. The choice between the 1000 and 900 took about 10 minutes, just long enough for me to drive the 1000 around at the dealer.

Well the 1000 may be better but how much better is better? Only you can decide...

Personally, the best way I can rationalize the cost of these units is to make your mind up on the one you want and the look for it at the end of that model years season....
I knew what I wanted and waited till the rebates were the highest and ended up driving appx 6 hrs one way to get it... But I got 4500+ off of list price,3 yr warranty included, as a lot of the things people add on right away
were already installed. I'm happy and felt I did as good as I could do... IMHO a 900 will certainly do anything you want at a price that's a lot more logical....

Go with the 1K. Everyone likes more ponys but I will say I don't have one bad word to say about my 900

900 may have more bugs worked out and should be some killer deals out there right now. The newness is still pretty strong with 1k and I'm sure they have bugs to work out. I haven't seen many issues pop up on here yet but the fact that it seems to be a 900 drive train with a 1k motor does make me uneasy. Maybe let them get broken for awhile while you enjoy your 900 and then pick up a 2019 1k. One Ranger is cool, two is awesome.

I cant find any info to support this??? I've been comparing some part numbers and reading all threads posted on here about gearing and it appears the 1K Rangers do have different internals. Maybe someone with better knowledge on part research could chime in, I've only barely scratched the surface.

The ProStar drive train is 'basically' the same all the way from the 325 Ace all the way to the 900 RZR and the 1000 Ranger and General. There are some differences in gearing and and some of the special edition models get some strengthened parts but there is no great difference. The 1000 RZR and Turbo models have some strengthened parts too but the basics are still not much different than everything else.
Polaris makes changes in the drive train all the time for specific uses, sometimes strengthening things and sometimes just a different gear ratio etc, so you end up with different part numbers with similar vehicles but that doesn't necessarily mean a difference in strength.

I understand that part, I guess i was just trying to stick to the thread discussion of Ranger 900 vs 1000 and the topic of those units drive train components (not any special editions). Were any of the on the Ranger 1000XP components "strengthened" to compensate increased power??? I guess that's all I've been trying to locate.

I used an online quote from abernathy's to work a deal in Florida, saved me $2500, My local dealer got within $1000 of Abernathys price, I would have spent that in travel to and from union city Tennessee. My local dealer was pissed about it but he new I would have made the trip.

I'm in SW Florida and went to Offroad Power Sports in Tifton Ga. Abernathy was $500 cheaper but 1000 more miles round trip. Since then I've had 4 friends buy machines from them...definitely worth the trip.
