I got my blower mounted an wired. Snorkled the belt exhaust as well. The blower I got is VERY loud. sounds like a dang vaccuum cleaner! Gotta add a switch if I keep it. We rode all day yesterday and no problems at all. I am really wondering if the hot clutch air blowimg on the hot exhaust is really helping. Seemed like the seat wasnt gettin hot and I didnt notice any negative effect withouth the belt exhaust blowin across the mottor..

I have a 2011 800 crew and was experiencing the same.

After reading a lot of posts here on it, I insulated the under side of the back seat with Lava Shield mat. I also wrapped the gas tank in it to help with the fuel getting so hot. I took my thermal thermometer and could not believe how hot the gas tank was getting. A silly little piece of heat wrap was already on it (which I assume was factory?). Anyway, it wasn't helping. I insulated the fuel line with nomex barrier insulation to keep the fuel from vaporizing between the tank and the motor as the prior owner said that is sometimes had a hard time re-starting after it had been run (due to vapor-lock) I painted the exhaust with ceramic paint and then wrapped it in lava shield. Not the big exhaust chamber, only the entire tube coming from the engine up to the actual muffler.

After all the mods, it runs a lot cooler. The under side of the rear seat gets warm, but definitely not as hot. the gas tank gets nowhere near as hot. I mocked up a two sided aluminum shield that I am thinking of installing between the motor and the fuel tank and wrapping it with lava-shield as well.

Problem I am having now is a darn oil leak coming out of the bolt that the dipstick tube bolts onto the case. I took the dipstick off and there were no cracks. Frustrating... going to try to get an o'ring or some gasket sealant on it next time i do a full oil change.

So far, I like the machine, but some items don't appear to be engineered that great.

1st post.

I cut some 1/8 aluminum plate out to go under the seat on both sides, problem solved and it really supports my seats now. the under side of my seats are completly broke and shattered from how hot it has gotten and the seat was slomping down in the storage box when you rode...if you need pictures let me know

Thanks for all this information. So this heat issue is only on SOME 800's and not ALL?? Is there any way to tell besides putting some time on one? I was considering buying a '12 800 but now I guess I'll keep looking for a good pre '08 500 or save up for the 570. This seems like a great forum, good job everyone!

My 800 continues to overheat, I run a thermostat with a drilled pilot hole, engine ice, insulated under the seat, insulated the fuel line, replaced the faulty 20 amp fan relay and installed a big under seat fan for additional cooling which I must run 95% of the time to keep it under 210 degrees. Polaris are nice machines in some respects BUT are engineering nightmares in addition the company does not care on the consumer end. I am starting to agree with Warpack. In a few years I might look to another brand next time I get a side by side.

I had the best fix. I put my 800 on craigslist and sold it. I had no idea the engine under the seat was an issue. Then bought a rear mount engine that's 50% better then the 800 engine as far as the heat goes. The rear mount exhast still curves behind the passengers side seat and still gives you heat. And I've heard other brands are even worse.

Just curious, was there ever a class action suit? Results?

Just bought a new 2012 Ranger 800 XP. Love the ride, love the way it looks, hate my hot passenger seat. After a little while riding with my buddy, (I was letting him drive because he knows the trails on his deer lease better than me), my butt about burnt up. The seat gets very hot on the passenger side and in the center. Im sure during the winter it will be real nice, but in the summer it is going to suck for whoever is riding in the passenger seat. Is there anything that can fix this heat issue? I called Polaris and they said “call your dealer.” Tried to call him, but he was busy. Going to stop by there after work.

The main things that I saw online to attempt to fix this issue were
1. Reflashing the ECU
2. Change the fuel mixture so it wasn’t as lean
3. Install a lot of heat reflective material under the seat
4. Add a fan system to push air away from under the seat
Anyone have experience with this that can tell me how they fixed the issue??? Kinda pissed right now that I bought a twelve thousand dollar passenger cooker.
You bought a 5 year old used machine and all you can do is fix it your self or pay, pay, pay. I had the hot seat issue and i used ceramic wrap on exhaust along with a 10" pancake fan to move the heat around the engine. No hot seat anymore.
