I have a 2007 700XP, my buddy just bought a 2008 XP and noticed the foam filter (under the hood) that goes back to the clutch was missing (just an empty air box), mine has the foam filters in both, he was told by the dealer that they do not put them in any more.

I have also heard of replacing both of them with K&N filters, and/or the main air intake filter.

What is anyone else doing?

Yes for 2008 they removed the foam filter on the clutch side to keep the clutches cooler. The K&N filters and outerwears for under the hood and in the air box make a noticeable difference in throttle response and keeping the clutches cool.
Just wondering if a guy really needs to go to the expense of using a K&N filter on the clutch side or not. I had the factory plastic foam looking stuff out of my 06 XP so I put it in my 08's clutch air box. It looks like the factory foam stuff would allow more air to get in then a K&N, any thoughts on this?

I believe the K&N will allow more air flow, it definetly flows better on the engine intake side than the stock one. Its a good idea to filter it, I wouldn't want dust in my clutch.

Sounds good, thanks for the info.

I removed the canister filter from under the bed.

I did the same as Brian, I don't see the sense in two filters, you won't find two filters on any atv's.
That seems to make sense to me, the "pre-filter" under the hood seems to catch most of the dust and the "main filter" seems to stay pretty clean.

What K&N filter are you using under the hood? I assume it would be the same one for the clutch side?

Here you go.

Under hood K&N Filter..........................RU-1770
Silk Pre-filter for K&N...........................RU-1470PK
Foam Pre-wrap for RU-1770..................25-3900

I think Dale has these at Dirty Dawg Performance. Also, for a list of important parts, check the top post out in this section.

I know that Dale runs K&N under the hood and a K&N in the filter box. He also uses the pre-filter.
