Could you please help me with this, I've researched the polaris website and found that on my 2011 800 6x6 ranger that I have 40 hp. But , on a ranger sportsman 850 xp it has 70hp , I no that the 850 is a little larger but why is there such a differance? Also has any one asked polaris that since they have a motor that will put out 70 hp , why in the world would'nt they put it in the rangers 4x4 / 6x6 or even the rzr? I no that the 850 sits in the sportsman sideways , but if I made it work in my ranger would all the wiring ( ecm ) work in my ranger? If it is not possible to put the 850 in my ranger could I buy every item that is made for a 800 engine to gain the most hp and get to 70hp, if so I'll just go with all the upgrades? I no that I have a lot of questions , but I would really appreciate the help , due to I'm wanting all the hp I can get to turn 29.5 tires on my 6x6 but still have the reliability. thanks to all.

They are limited to 40 HP for some federal regulation. If you want to increase performance give Dale at Dirty Dawg performance a call. He can hook you up with a clutch kit, after market cam, bored throttle body, and reprogrammed ecu. You will be all set with about 70 HP and will be very reliable.

the 850 is a totally different engine, I know the 800 is a push-rod engine and I think the 850 is over head cam. Best hp for your dollar is a turbo. I doubled the hp in my RZR-S for $4k and it actually sounds like it runs better than it did stock. I have 2000 miles on the turbo and zero trouble. There is very little lag and its much smoother power. I have one on the 700xp but dont have it totally dialed in yet, so far its impressed me also.

I love my DDP Equipped Ranger, its a huge improvement over a stock machine.
I've been told the 850 actually runs backwards from what we would need in the Ranger, but I cannot tell you if that is a true statement.

I agree.
I have over 4,000 miles on my turbocharged RZR, and it has been extremely reliable. Aerocharger makes a very nice turbo kit for the Ranger XP. I saw it in person at the SEMA show this year.

From what I hear, the 2011 non-xp 800 may have a restrictor tube inside the throttle body AND the ECM may be reducing the HP.
