Could anyone explain.

No the rods are made as one piece and then broken in half so they mate perfectly. You have to order rods as one piece because they are mated together. You can't just order a cap or a rod. Here is a parts diagram. There are 4 different bearing sizes you can order.

I have seen the replacement rods as pictured in the diagram however, mine as shown in the pictures has broken in the cast material and not come apart at the machined surfaces like would be on a normal rod and crank.
Are you saying that one they come off the crank like mine have that they need to be replaced buy one like shown in the link ?
I have never seen one like this unless it was pressed onto the crank and the crank and rod(s) are one assembly. If that were the case here how would they get the cylinders down over the rings and piston in the 900 unless they hade a tool cheat the pistons up into the cylinder like i have heard of people doing.

So is what you are saying that when mine came off the rod journal like it did it needs to be replaced with another rod and cap assembly and this one is not servicable. That is really stupid for them to do.?

How would they have installed this one on the rod journal any idea ?

I don't think you are quite getting what I am saying. The rod is machined as one piece. It is then broken in two so that the cap and rod mate together perfectly. They are then bolted on the crank. You can't mate another cap from a different rod.
You need to find the correct bearing size for yours. They make 4 different sizes. You need to order them all and use plasti guage to get the correct clearance. Then send the rest back.

Yes guys i understand now completely and I am very thankful.
Do you know by chance if I can get the code on the end of the rod read what info that would tell me. I may try that tomorrow.

Also if I could id the color of bearing in the rod now do you think I could buy the same color or does fracturing it and reinstallation make the bearing fit more tightly on the journal

I was found a electronic manual on another thread and nowhere in it does it explain there or elude to there fractured rods it mentions the rods and caps and the numbers for the bearing and gives an example where the numbers should be.They should be on the rod or cap and rod like they would be on traditional 2 piece rods but that is not correct. The only number I see is a P258 stamped on each rod down near the bolts.
There is a QR code on the end of each rod but we tried two phones and they would not read it.If you guys could point me to where I could get the correct info that would be great or I could just reinstall new color coded rod bearings since i was able to get the colors off the pto rod bearing and the mag rod bearing.

Hey man. Did you have to order all four sizes of bearings for your rods or was there something else to use to get the correct size bearings for your rods? Just asking cause my rods don't have a number either. And my new cases dont have the number stamped in it either. Any info would be great. Cause i really don't want to order 200 dallors of rod bearings and have to plastigauge them all.

No, no such luck, i already looked for color, but that wouldn't matter anyway, cause i got a new crank also. My case didn't have anything stamped where it should be,but had one of those sticker code things on the front and also had 2222 on it. But when i scaned the sticker it didn't read anything. But im guessing my number is 2222. My original cases had that sc2222 stamped where it was supposed to be but not the new one. As far as rods, ill probably order blue and green bearings, cause its usually one of those. But i was just wondering if you came up with any other info about the rods.

#26 ·
Was told from Polaris that the cases that arent stamped are 222222 , but as far as the rods, he said he didn't know and to order new rods. Aint no way im buying new rods at 235. Bucks apeice. So im betting all the rods that arent stamped, came from the same place and are all the same. So if you remember what letter was on ur crank, i can narrow it down.

I have not been on here for months and just say your post .Did you get it figured out.I barely remember but between the crank and the rod I was able to figure out what bearings I needed and i reused the rods being extremely carerful not to disturb the nice clean break. No cleaning it no sitting it down on anything etc...My rebuild turned out perfect.

There is a code on the bottom of the rod caps but i cant get my phone to read it. So small and maybe scratched. So i had to plastigauge the rod bearings. I went ahead and ordered a green set and a blue set, thinking those were the most sizes used. Mine ended up needing the green bearings so that would put make my rods a 2. But yeah, i got it all back together and running fine. After having a oil leak from the tensioner, that i had to replace the washer on,and i had to figure out why it started right up when i first put the motor in,but when i replaced that washer the next day and then tried to start it,it wouldn't start. I figured out it was out of gas, then i got it started, and then it was missing, then found out that i had a plug broken. The threads broke right off the bottom, of the plug, which i never had happen before. Thankfully i was able to use a small flathead screwdriver to stick down in there and back out the threads. So then I picked up two new plugs the next day and put them in. So now she's running fine and is good to go.
