Re: No start Cold?

I have a buddie with a new 2013 900 Ranger. He has been haveing problems when the temp is below 20 degrees his ranger will not start. He has changed the plugs and it really did not make a difference. He has talked to the dealer here and they have not come up with anything. He has checked the machine when it doesnt start and it is getting fuel and spark but will not start. When it is above freezing it starts good. Kind of a hit and miss thing. So I was wondering if anyone was haveing a problem like this. I have 2010 800xp and it makes him a little upset when my ranger fires right up. He has been pretty patient but it is starting to get a little old.
Thanks for any advice on a possible fix.

My tech at my dealership is so frustrated with polaris.

He reported the problem and polaris big shots said i have to take it in so he can check the battery, then this and then that!!! Grrr, he said they are gonna send him down a gravel road first.. He thinks from what he's hearing on here that it is a fault in the cold start program. So next week i can take it up and i'm sure it will be warmer and there wont be any issue found... I have had a few other issues with this one though, I notice that sometimes i start it up and take off that it seems way down on power, if I stop and shut it off and go again it runs normal, has anyone else had this issue? its very noticable if you have, so my tech is thinking I have a cpu issue and is gonna push to get me a new one.

I love the machine but i'm frustrated with these problems.
that sucks

I guess iam just lucky. Sorry Guys but my 900 starts sitting outside at -20 belowf. I havent had any issues starting. I bought mine at Action Motorsports in Mandan, ND. It does scare me that i could develope a problem. Could it be something the setup guys do at the dealerships?

There is no set-up, the dealer simply bolts the cage to it, washes/wipes the dust off it and ships it out the door everyone wants to believe that the dealer goes over every nut and bolt, yah right!

Well I still don't believe that it is fuel, but I'll have my Grandson here Saturday so we'lll try to burn out what's in the tank and then buy some fresh 87 octane non ethanol.

Dealer put it pretty simply: Nothing found or bad fuel found=customer pays Problem found=warranty pays

For now I'll sit on my hands and wait to see if a resolution is found.

I know mine is not bad fuel, I have the same Gas in everything, and nothing else is causing problems. It has not started every morning this whole week, I try it and nothing, then i come out a bit later and it starts. I'm gonna give it a shot of either in the morning and see if it fires, ..

Sounds just like mine.

Dont give it any either, there is NO reason! It IS a ecm programming issue plain and simple, stupid Polaris is refusing to admit and fix the problem. While my 900 starts perfect every time I miss my 800 in every way.

My 900 died while plowing snow last night, very odd never done that before, motor was locked tight and wouldnt turn over even though starter tried, after several tries it hard started and ran ok the rest of the time.

An easy way to test the ECM is to "borrow" one from a machine that is working. If you have to, have the "stealership" take one off of a new machine in the yard to try.

That would be awsome if they would do that!! but im sure it wouldnt be that easy... i will know more next week.. I guess i better not plan on taking this thing out and needing it when it is really cold, I better take my 800 ranger, I know it will start!! kinda sad.. I just put a down payment on the new jagged x thats coming out, I hope the heck that it doesnt have the same problem!!

I wonder how my diesel will start after sitting for a couple months in the cold

Well if mine starts today (outside 12°f) I'm taking it to the cabin while the roads are clear. We got enough rain Thursday night and it stayed warm enough that we should be pretty much salt free all the way.

Let's keep this thread going and hopefully Polaris wises up.

They don't know about mine though as I'm not going to pay dealer to tell me nothing wrong with it.

I took mine up to the dealer last tuesday, Polaris told tech to check battery, He determined that battery was low on cranking amps, He ordered a new battery and it was dead when he got it from polaris, so now waiting on another new one. I'm not at all sold on it being a battery issue, Its very cold here again and I asked him if he would leave it out tonight and put a booster on it tomorrow and see if it would fire, I dont think he will, he is just gonna wait for a new battery. I really want to get this issue fixed before the weather turns nice and the warranty runs out.

I get a call from the tech today, he installed the new battery and left it outside over night and it wouldnt start this morning! Good news, it doesnt usually work like that!!!.. So now Polaris wants more info from it when it doesnt start, biggest problem is the weather is getting nicer here now. Polaris did tell him that they are having some issues with these models, so anyone with cold start troubles should get them in to the dealer, looks like we are getting somewhere!!

Ron, which dealership are you using and where are you located?

I live in Brush and I deal with MV equipment in Sterling. They have a great tech there who is awsome!!

-15* to-20* windchill tomorrow morning, thinking about backing my Ranger out of the garage tonight and see if it starts in the morning, will make a video.

That would be a good idea!! We want to go to the mountains here and take the ranger back in to a lodge and stay the weekend, but not gonna chance it till they get this figured out.

The tech called today and they are sending out a new computer and a new crank sensor! So I hope the ones having cold start troubles get theres in and checked out! Thanks for all the input and ideas from everyone!!
